THE STORY THAT INSPIRED THE THINGY
Here is a link to the NPR story that inspired The Thingy That Cracks Nuts:
No Sugar Plums Here: The Dark, Romantic Roots of "The Nutcracker"
AHWATUKEE COMPOSER WILL TAKE ON REWRITE OF THE NUTCRACKER
Composer David Kruse Coste ("Dirk Danger and the Lady in White", "The Dogs Must Be Crazy") will debut a new musical in December, based on The Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker and the Mouse King was written by ETA Hoffmann and adapted by Alexander Dumas for the famous ballet by Tchaikovsky. Coste will not attempt to write another work of that genre,, but will reference the original story for an original full-length children's musical.
The Tchaikovsky ballet only adapted part of ETA Hoffmann's story. There is more in the story than what the ballet depicted, and other themes to be explored.
The script is currently being developed, and rehearsals will begin in August. The production will run from December 15-17, 2017 at Esperanza Lutheran Church in the Ahwatukee, a segment of Phoenix, AZ.
A new retelling of a classic tale.
Faithful to the original story, meet E.T.A. Hoffmann's Marie, Drosselmeyer, Mouserinks, the Mouse King, the soldiers and mice, Princess Pirlipat and the Hard Nut to Crack.
